anyone? haven't seen much about this game but i thought its release date was this week... not a good time to be releasing a new game but an alternative to madden... it could win me over.

I wish it the best of luck, but nothing will ever beat Madden. Not because Madden is great, but if people can't play with their favorite players, they don't want anything to do with it.

Picked this up on a whim today at Best Buy. They had it for $30. And with the release of the new HUGE patch this game looks like it might have some potential.

I just got done playing through all the tutorials, and while it feels a little funky at first it grows on you quickly. The whole 3rd person on the field camera is pretty sweet especially playing defense. (It actually feels like you are playing defense)

I've heard/read that Backbreaker is a true on the field football game, as compared to Madden which is an NFL top down RTS game. While it is true Madden has the NFL license. I really think Backbreaker has some potential. Real time physics were made for a football game!

(I believe there is a way to download all the NFL teams and logos, but I"m not sure if it works for the 360)

If you are into all the Madden bells and whistles you'll probably be disappointed with this game. But for $30 or less and for some good old football playing, this game is a get.

I tried the demo and just couldn't quite get the hang of it. It was a good looking game though and applaud them for stepping in the ring with Madden.

I just wish we could get a version of NFL 2K5 back.

this is from the dubious quality review:
Quote:
The Backbreaker patch isn't good.

It's great.

Remember how we all wanted to like this game, and then it actually came out and we played it and said "Oh crap, this game has cancer"? And remember how 505 Games said they were working on a patch, and then they came out with a patch list that basically shat rainbows, and we all said there was no way they could pull it off?

Well, they pulled it off.

This may be the most dramatic improvement I've ever seen in a game via patch. All the possibilities that Backbreaker represented, all the unique qualities that were designed to capture the intensity of being on the field--they nailed it.

When this game was originally released, the average Metacritic score was 54. I wrote this:
"This game is a 90 that was released in 65 condition."

* * *

It's a 90 game in 90 condition now.

Let me be clear about this. It's not just that the broken parts of the game have been fixed. It's that this game absolutely soars, in a way that I don't remember seeing since ESPN NFL2K5.

Yes, I thought Madden was a better game last year, but I still remember how blown away I was the first time I saw NFL2K5 in 480P on the Xbox. It was incredibly vibrant and totally breathtaking.

In 2010, so it is with Backbreaker.

* * *
In short, a sensational effort.

Agreed. The only shortcomings I've seen since the patch are the general lake of candy top features one might expect in a madden game. And the fact that the running game is pretty tough now. (I would almost assume that they will keep tweaking this game to get it right).

Bottom line is this is a football playing sim and nothing more. And now after the patch it is a very good football playing sim.

It does take a little getting used to because it is essentially a third person camera where the madden games all have the "god" cam view.
It is well worth it when you fill a gap as a linebacker and meet the running back head on. You actually get the feeling you just punished the poor RB.

Unfortunately no.

I just read the entire article you mentioned a little bit ago and I agree whole heartily with it.

Cool. Just make sure you complete the entire training mode first to get the hang of it. Get a custom team made and I'll meet ya online.

Is there an option to change, for instance, when you're a certain player on defense and a member of your team intercepts the ball, to switch to them automatically? I noticed it doesn't do that. It was kind of weird actually. Felt like I was playing an actual game.
