almost caught up now to season 6. Being able to stream season 4 & 5 via Netflix has been a blessing. I'm enjoying the show again, and they certainly are weaving a pretty intricate story. At some points in season 5 I almost felt the need to takes notes though as all the time travel was a bit disorienting.

can't wait to see how things wrap up

Keep your pen out because you will probably need to take more notes during season 6. I like to tell people the show is called Lost because that is how you feel after every episode. :) I'm fine with that as long as I don't feel that way after the finale.

ok, Pez -I'll keep my notepad handy.

what I've noticed from watching seasons 4 & 5 in rapid succession is that an episode of Lost consists of 40 minutes of walking around the island and 5 minutes of story progression - which usually comes at the end of each episode. It's those damn 5 minutes though that hooks you and keeps you watching.

SPOILER!!!!!

So, I was curious if anyone else has come up with the idea that Lost is eerily similar to events that took place in the Bible?

You have the Jacob as the Christ-like figure and the Man in Black as the evil-Satan figure. Jacob, like Christ, gathered his disciples while he was on the earth. Jacob was betrayed by one of his followers, Ben, like Christ was betrayed by Judas. The dead Jacob continues to be with his chosen ones even when they begin to lose faith (Richard) as Christ did with his disciples.

Then, you have the Man in Black potentially using deception to get the unsuspecting to do his deeds as Satan convinced Eve to eat off the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Satan used the guise of a snake to trick eve as MIB uses the body of Locke.

I am probably off target but after watching last night's episode these ideas came to mind.

Sort of... Jesus didn't try to replace himself. I also don't know that Not Locke is tricking anybody at this point, since everyone knows it's not Locke. :)

I've got a prediction, but I don't want to post spoilers here. :)

It did strike me as being very Book of Job, though. The man in black is more like the Old Testament satan... He's not neccessarily the source of evil so much as an agent for trying to bring out the inherent corruptibility of humans. That whole thing where he just twisted Richard into thinking that he was dead and in hell was brilliant.

So Jacob is less Jesus and more Pandora. Everything is Jacob's fault... I didn't really see that coming, but that alone explained a lot. He's not looking for someone to replace him. He's looking for someone to fix his mistake.

Not really sure what to make of last night's episode. I guess more confusion. Wasn't really expecting the man in black to be dead...or at least it appeared he was dead last night.

My guess is that his physical body "died" when he became the smoke monster. It (the smoke) can take the form of any dead body on the island, so that is why we have seen him "alive" since the incident. There could probably be a whole spin-off series about Jacob and the man in black so a one hour episode definitely left me wanting more.

Yeah, that was my thought. When Jacob asked his mom what would happen if he went into the light, she told him it would be a fate worse than death. That was his reason for throwing him into it in the first place. He knew he couldn't kill him, and that was the worse punishment he could think of in lieu of execution. It isn't really his brother anymore, but his brother is still in there somewhere.

I really found the evil character to be way more sympathetic than Jacob. I've thought for awhile that Jacob was kind of a dick. Last night confirmed it for me.

Another interesting thing is that before he went smoky, he had the power to see dead people, just like Hurley...

ok, someone please explain the finale to me.

I mean, I think I get it - but it just doesn't make a helluva a lot of sense

The side time line was a shared intermediate afterlife they had all unknowingly created so that they could reunite and all move on together. My take on it is that Jacob had told them that the reason they were candidates was because they didn't have anything or anyone before he took them to the island. On the island, though, they all came together and basically became a family. Their time on the island was the most important time of their lives, and so they were all tied together because of that. So to let go and finally move on, they all had to be together. Jack died on the island at the end of the episode after he saved it, but the afterlife took place at some indeterminate time after that. From Hurley and Ben's exchange, for example, they spent their lives protecting the island after Jack saved it. In the end, I think it was an ackowledgement on the part of the production staff that the show was never really about the island, it was about the castaways.

To coin a popular bathroom stall phrase - "Here I sit all broken hearted, tried to poop and only farted". Last night's episode was the "fart". Not quite what I wanted to come out in the end.

Basically they did the same thing in the final as they do in all episodes. They answer one question while creating two more. To me, the side-ways flashes were a type of purgatory where they were waiting for everyone to return to their meeting place so they could move on. When Christian opened the door and the white light flooded the scene it appeared they were all on their way to move on to heaven. But, what was confusing was Penny being there. She was not known to be dead.

Maybe I'm not as smart at other Lost fans but I just can't seem to muster a rational idea or explanation for the final. It was a good episode by itself, but in my opinion, not an episode a devoted fan like me wanted to see sum up 6 years of devotion.

I was satisfied at the ending even though I thought the first half of the finale was a lot better than the second. It's not what I expected but it wouldn't be Lost if I would have predicted what would happen. The parallel timeline was worth it just to see their "awakenings" as one friend called them. What I don't get is why it was that specific set of people at the church. It wasn't just the original castaways because Desmond, Penny and Juliet were there. It wasn't the people that we know had died because Hurley, Kate, Penny, Desmond, Sawyer and whoever else I'm forgetting were still alive. I understand that everyone was there because we all die sometime but I'm talking about during the timeline of the show. Overall, I am very happy though (but sad that it is over.)
